Rangtal Theatre, started its journey in 2003 and registered on 2nd Nov, 2006 and since then never looked back. Though we started our organization in a backward and poverty stricken area, but culturally, the mental set-up of the people is no less rich them that of other advanced areas. Initially, though we started our cultural activities for the development and propagate of Mukabhinaya, the art of Pantomime or mime practiced in our Country .  Gradually RTT has spread its wings for different cultural activities at its centre for training, Research & Documentation as well as Creative production, through different programmes we organized “Child Development Workshop” and “Children Promoting Festival” and Mime Festival. We strongly believe that, developments of cultural activities are not for culture alone, it is for social causes and also for like’s sake. That is why Rangtal Theatre is engaged in socio-cultural development and also for social welfare. Our members are sincerely dedicated to fulfilling of social commitment through their different activities.  

Following are the reports of our multifarious performances running 2006-07.

1. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Rangtal Theatre paved its way as a cultural organization in the world of Bharatiya Mukabhinaya art (Indian Pantomime art), Human Puppet, Dance, Drama etc. As a result, young poor people are being gradually interested in mime; specially we have engaged them in creative art. Rangtal Theatre is motivating the interested persons towards this art availing of enrichment of this art form. We performed at different fairs and Festival with our entertainment items such as Charlie Chaplin, Jocker , Gopal Bhar , Mickey Mouse , Santa Claus , living Model etc.

2. We maintain a regular training programme for the budding talents who have the inclination to learn and practice Mime, Puppet art with love for our cultural heritage.

Our director Shri Ratan Chakraborty introduced a specific training method of Mukabhinaya based on Bharatmuni’s Natyasastra. He has also developed special training method of mime and in workshops following Shri Badal Sarker (Natyakar) ,

Shri Niranjan Goswami (Mime) conducted workshops we attended many workshops in National Level (Chhow, Kathak, Marshal Art, Rabindra Nritya etc.). Attended in “Inter National Art Festival-02”at Sanghai,China with Indian Mime Theatre. Trained in “Culture, values in Education” and acted co-ordinate and took classes in many slum area schools of Kolkata and other district and classes at Deaf & Dumb school students of Mumbai, Maharastra. Live advertisement for Vodafone Telecom at New Delhi.                                                                                                                           

During the year 2006-07 Young people received training from our Institution and students in the field of Theatre and mime. They were given special training in our Institution. We invited experts in the field of art, dance, pranayam, yogasana, music and mime as guest lecturers for students and trainees. Our two students received second and third prize in mime competition at Konnagar, Hooghly.

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA” and JUGABTAR SRI SRI RAMAKRISHNA” (Human Puppet) is the new productions of Rangtal Theatre. The scripts are written and directed by Shri Ratan Chakraborty. During the year 2007-08 Young people received training from our Institution and students in the field of Theatre and mime; They were given special training in our Institution. We invited 4 (four) experts in the field of art, dance, pranayam, yogasana, music, Puppet and mime as guest lecturers for the during students and trainees. Our Director was chosen by one Delhi based NGO for making advertisement in human puppet regarding heart attack and cancer in December, 2007.

The  “BHOOT” Hindi & Bengali both (Human Puppet) and mime are the new productions of Rangtal Theatre. The scripts are written and directed by Shri Ratan Chakraborty. Number of performances have taken places within and outside of West Bengal , Panipath, Kalka, Panchkula (Hry), Chandigarh, , Simla Kalibari , Banga Bhavan (Chandigarh) , Chandigarh Kalibari, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) and ISCUF’s Festival at Kattak , Orissa, Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital , Shyampur (Howrah) etc. Audience and critics appreciated the performances. We are only one group, which is performing Human Puppet Show. We are experimenting with new methods as in new production.

3. CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

The planning and effort to develop the creativity and personality of children is very limited in our Country. Rangtal Theatre, realizing the need to search for talented children in the field of arts  have organized summer “1^st Children Development Workshop” for 7 days. It includes apart from theatre voice training and acting of mime & music. We have also given them training in puppetry, pranayam, yogasana, recitation, magic etc. This workshop is conducted by professionals besides guest experts from various fields of performing and allied arts. Number of children from different schools participated in this workshop. It was a production oriented and final show was held in Khasbati Barawari Mancha, Halisahar, 24 Parganas(N) in summer vacation. This year, produced a play titled “VEDUO PARE”.The play was written and directed by Shri Ratan Chakraborty. The children rehearsed and finally performed this play at “Children Promoting Festival” at Loko Sanskrity Mancha”, Halisahar, 24Pgs.(N). This play was highly appreciated by the audience.                                                                   

4. CHILDREN PROMOTING FESTIVAL

We had organized two day Festival at Halisahar Loko Sankrity Mancha on the 1^st day Dr. Nirjharini Chakraborty (MLA & Principal) , Ms. Malabika Bosu (Dancer & Mime Artiste) and Prof. Chanchal Roy (RBU, Drama) were present as guests on the 2^nd day Dr.Badhan Sengupta was present as guest. We invited two children’s theatre groups from two districts. “Chupkatha”, Salt Lake, presented play drama , directed by Mss. Doli Basu , “Korak” , Haldia Children Group played Sabujer Janya , directed by Shri Dipendra nath Dey and our own production “VEDUO PARE” was performaned by our  own childrens group , written and directed by Shri Ratan Chakraborty. Bazigar Dilip Mondal with his group also performed Magic, Puppet and Talking Doll in collaboration with “Song & Drama Division” Kolkata.    

During the year 08-09 :-

Number of performances have taken places within and outside of West Bengal, Panchkula (Hry), Chandigarh, , Simla Kalibari  , Chandigarh Kalibari, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) and Pataliputra Mahotsav , Patna, Bihar. Organised  our 2^nd Children Promoting Festival-2008 from 5^th May to 6^th May-08 (two days).This time performed CPF- Amnie Hae (Mime & Puppet show), RE-AIDS(Health is Wealth)  (Human Puppet) and invited to two children group , Santipur Rangapith & Gobardanga Rupantar and Song & Drama Division , Govt. of India , Dhumketu Puppet Theatre & Ms.Sabita Biswas also performed their productions. Dr. Nirjharini Chakraborty (MLA & Principal) , Dr. Badhan Sengupta and Natyakar Sri Kamal Banarjee etc. inaugurated the Festival.

During the year 2009-10

We organized Money collection programme for “Aila” damaged people in the locals trains at Sealdah Station also at Sealdah station area by performing Mime with proper make-up and costumes. We presented “Human Puppet” show to observe the World Anti-Drug Day on 26^th June, 2009 organized by Kolkata Police at Sealdah Station . We also performed “ Human Puppet and Mime at Srijani hall in Shantiketan , Birbhum organized by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) , Salt Lake , Govt. of India The show was very much appreciated by the audience. We donated many shirts to (12) twelve local rickshaw drivers last two years.  “ALOR KHONJJE” (Against Drug-Abuse), VAGYA LAXMI PUTUL NAACH PARTY” (Human Puppet) and mime are the new productions of Rangtal Theatre. The scripts are written and directed by Shri Ratan Chakraborty.

Number of performances has taken places within and outside of West Bengal, Kalka, Panchkula (Hry), Chandigarh Kalibari, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh). Last three years we have been performing at these places. They have really pleased and appreciated by the audience. Astha Nursing Home had invited us for entertainment programme as a World Child Day on 14^th November, 2009 at Kalyani, Nadia. We presented “Muppet” show to observe the World Aids Day on 1^st December, 2009 organized by Manicktala ESI Hospital & Kolkata ESI Corporation, at Manicktala ESI Hospital, Sealdah ESI Hospital and ESI Corporation places of Kolkata. Participated in Silver Jubilee 25^th Patliputra Natya Mahotsav-2010 from 7^th February to 12^th February at Patna, Bihar. Performed Mime Drama (Tishra Number). Written by Sri Sandip Niogi and Directed by Sri Ratan Chakraborty.

During the year 2010-11

We presented “Street Mime” Show and Cycle rally to observe the World Anti-Drug Day on 26^th June, 2010, organized by Kolkata Police at North 24Parganas .We had organized 1^st National Cultural Festival-2010 from 17^th September to 19^th September, 2010, at Halisahar Lokosankrity Bhawan, 24PGS. (N) , W.B. collaborated with Ministry of Culture,  New Delhi, Govt. of India. Young people received training from our Institution and students in the field of Theatre and mime; They were given special training in our Institution. We invited 4 (four) experts in the field of art, Dance, Pranayam, Yogasana, Puppet, Mime and Light & Design. As guest lecturers for the during students and trainees and seminar also discussed for their participate.  We had performed mime & Human Puppet shows as a Bengali Festival (Durga Puja) at Burdwan  & Kolkata. We invited for entertainment programs specially for 14^th November, 2010 of World Children Day at City Centre-1 & City Centre-2, Kolkata & Rajarhat, Organized by Hangout Co. Kolkata. and performed Human Puppet shows (Orao Pare) on 3^rd December, 2010 World Handicapped Day at North Bengal regarding Sarbo Siksha Abhijan , organized by Education Dept. Govt. of West Bengal. We had invited for mime shows on 31^st December, 2010 at Beach Festival of Puri, Urissa, organized by FUNTIME. Performed awareness programs like Pulse Polio, Hygiene etc. at Slum area in Kolkata, organized by NGO.

During the year 2011-12

We had performed Human Puppet shows “Swami Vivekananda” on 12^th April, 2011 for National Integration at Mandarmoni, Mednapur. We had performed awareness program Human Puppet show on 26^th June, 2011 near Sealdah Station, against World Anti Drug Abuse Day, organized by Narcotics Drug Dept. of Lalbazar Police. Last 8^th November, 2011 our new production “SAMAY NASTO KORONA” , written by Padmasree Suresh Dutta (Puppeteer) and directed by Sri Ratan Chakraborty , collaborated with Ministry of Culture , Govt. of India, New Delhi at Khudiram Bose Institute , Kanchrapara, North 24 Parganas and we have organized 2^nd National Cultural Dhamaka Festival-2011 from 1^st Dec. to 4^th Dec. (four days) collaborated with Ministry of Culture , Govt. of India, New Delhi at Halisahar Loko Sanskrity Bhawan.  Participated from Kerala, Manipur, Assam, Mumbai, Jalpaiguri and local groups from West Bengal. We have done awareness programmes Human Puppet & Mime from 24^th Dec to 25^th

Dec. 2011 at Chhayanat Club, 24Pgs. (S) , 8^th January at Barasat, 14^th January to 15^th January at Behala Parnosree, Kolkata, 24^th January at Ashokenagar, North 24 Parganas, 28^th January  to 31^st January at Mednapur (East) and 12^th February , 2012 at Kankinara Book Fair through “Song & Drama Division , Ministry of Broadcasting, Govt. of India. Last 4^th January and 24^th February, 2012 , we have performed human puppet shows regarding Traffic Rules Week , organized by Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police at Kadamtala , Baraipur and Behala Police Station. We have performed “Thakur Sree Sree Ramkrishna” , Human Puppet show, organized by Dhumketu Puppet Theatre on 20^th March , 2012 at Calcutta University Institute Hall.

During the Year 2012-2013

Year passes on we venture big and progress gradually. The current year our activities expended during the year.

On 11^th April we presented both Mime & Human Puppet shows at “Sarbajonin Chhistya Mela” held at Mandarmoni , Mednapur , West Bengal organized by MANC State Committee. The programme was so attractive a large member of audience appreciated very much.

We presented our this year’s New Production “Krishna Kanta” in human puppet play depicting the character of Kestha adopting the human famous poem “Puratan Vritya” (The old servant)of Rabindranath Tagore on 29.05.2012 at Pally Unnyan Samity, Halisahar Battala, North 24 parganas, W.B. The programme was very much appreciated by the spectator. During the months together we had been performing the shows for awareness generation programmes on Health issues through Human Puppet, sponsor by the Song & Drama Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India in different districts of West Bengal.

On 27^th Sept, 2012, we performed a “Human Puppet” Drama of “Swami Vivekananda” at 24 Parganas (South) on a call show. The programme was applauded by the audience very much. On the occasion of Durga Puja Festival, we were invited for performing Human Puppet shows from the Ludhiana and Punchkula where we presented our New Production in Modern Chow Dance and Mime combined “Durga Durgati Nashini” as well as other mime presentations on 22^nd & 23^rd October, 2012. It was a very successful programme and our performances were highly acclaimed by the audience of outside, West Bengal.

In connection with “World’s AIDS day” on 3^rd December , 2012, we presented show on AIDS in “Human Puppet” organized by ESI Hospital , Manicktala, Kolkata and the presentation was very much appreciated by all Besides AIDS we performed a good number of awareness programmes on Dengue , Malaria, Right to Information, National Integration and Environment protection . In connection with 150^th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. We presented a Human Puppet Drama on Swami Vivekananda’s Teachings, which was presented at Santiniketan High School , Bolpur district and the Mime Festival on 19^th January, 2013 at Rabindra Bhawan, Asansol alongwith Mime Programmes. We were invited to perform the shows there on invitation from Amiya Memorial Creative Art at Asansol.

Besides Health Awareness programme earlier, we performed other social awareness programmes in collaboration with Song & Drama Division, Ministry of I & B. Govt. of India in different districts of West Bengal.

We, on invitation, performed dramas through human puppets, Mime and Recitation with Mime at Rabindra Bhawan , Bahrampur, Murshidabad on 2^nd March, 2013 , organized by CESC’s (WBSEB) recreation Club.

On the occasion of World Women Day on 8^th March, 2013, we presented through Human Puppet on Education of Women at Singur, Hooghly District of W. Bengal. Supported by the Song & Drama Division , Govt. of India besides others performances of Human Puppet regarding Hygiene duly supported by the same Division . We have also performed many road shows of awareness programmes at various places, both rural and urban areas of west Bengal duly supported by the Song & Drama Division.

Our decided and energetic young boys and girls also take part in our various programmes. Throughout whole of the year we make research works and prepare long and short dramas according to the need of people as well as our choice.  26^th June, 2013. Kolkata police organized awareness programs against World Anti Drug Abuse Day. We performed Human Puppets on road shows near Kolkata-GPO and Presidency Collage, Kolkata. Running Public and organizer appreciated to our programmes. They (Kolkata Police) have given us Certificate and Inner. Last 18^th July, 2013, we performed our Huaman Puppet show at Ariadah, Kolkata. We were performing Human Puppet shows regarding “Adhar Card”, Supported by Song & Drama Division and Field Publicity Dept. at Hooghly District of West Bengal. Last 23^rd August, 2013, Youth Social Centre, Kolkata invited us for performed our Human Puppet regarding Adhar Card.  Last 3^rd Sept. to 7^th Sept. we were performing human puppet shows of Song & Drama Division regarding “Nirmal Bharat Abhijan” at Lalgola, Dist. Murshidabad, end of India.            

23^rd October, we performed human puppet show, “Swami Vivekananda” at Ashirbad, Bagmore. 12.11.2013-late Meera Smriti Shishu Ankan Siksha Kendra-Rishra, Hooghly-Mime & Puppet performed.

Participated from Theatre Combine , Kerala, Amiya Memorial Creative Art , Asansol, Burdwan, Delhi Classical Theatre, Delhi, Jalpaiguri Sristhi Mime Akademi, North Bengal,

Dhumketu Puppet Theatre, Kolkata, Gobardanga Shilpayan, North 24Pgs. Mr. Gharui of Mednipur Puppet Group. Sanjoy Mondal & Group, Tangra , Kolkata, Smt. Soma Das (Mime), Belgharia, Sri Saswata Biswas (Mime), Thakur Nagar and Rangtal Theatre. 15th December, 2013, participated again Dhumketu Puppet Theatre, Kolkata, Sri Tapas Mukharjee and also Rangtal Theatre (Group) we performed human puppet“Krishnakanta” of Rabindra Nath Thakur at Sisir Mancha, Kolkata. The programme was very much appreciated by the spectator.

10.12.2013, organized Manna Dey Smrity Mancha-Damadar Mela, performed Human Puppet “Swami Vivekananda”. 24.12. 2013 at Gujar Kharui New Tarun Sangha, Purba Mednapur, W.B. 05.01.2014, Paschimbanga Natya Mela, we performed our Drama, “Tahaderi Katha”, like Hizra. Organized by Paschimbanga Natya Akademi, Govt. of West Bengal on 5p.m. at Rabindra Sadan Mukta Mancha, Kolkata.

Protection. In connection with 150^th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. We presented a Human Puppet Drama on Swami Vivekananda Teachings, which was presented at Halisahar on 12^th January, 2014. Supported by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. (Ratan Chakraborty, Individual Production Grant) Besides Health Awareness programme earlier. we performed other social awareness programmes , Ralley etc.   

We performed our Human Puppet “Laila Maznu” and Mime on 20^th January at Sandeshkhali, Sundarban, North 24 parganas, near river side. 25^th January, 2014 at Panchpota, North 24 parganas, Bangah , West Bengal. 2^nd February, 2014, performed Human Puppet “Laila Maznu” and Mime. 3^rd February, 2014, Uttarsuri Creative Drama Troupe of Halisahar has given me an Honor (Memento & Uttaorya). 28^th February , attend on Festival at Tapan Theatre, Kolkata for Human Puppet show. Performed our Human Puppet “Laila Maznu” on 28^th March at Matee Festival, Halisahar Deshbandhu Ground, Hazinagar, North 24 Parganas. On 30^th March, East Mednapur, we had performed Puppet and Mime shows.
